A Message from HCPS: Dec. 11, 2024
Dear HHS Families, Faculty, and Staff,
We are writing with an update regarding the status of the Hanover High School (HHS) baseball program. As you know, over the past several weeks, we have been conducting a comprehensive investigation involving the HHS baseball program due to allegations of misconduct. We understand that this impacts your school community, and we appreciate your patience and understanding as we’ve worked diligently through this important process to conduct a thorough investigation.
While we are prohibited by state and federal law, as well as School Board policy, from sharing details concerning matters pertaining to specific students and personnel information, such as any disciplinary action that may have been taken, we can share that we have identified three key areas that are in need of improvement in the baseball program. Based upon the investigation, increased supervision, the communication of clear and reinforced expectations, and the need for additional training are all necessary for the successful future of the program.
Accordingly, we are taking steps to help ensure that the coaching staff, as well as school and athletic administrators, are equipped with the necessary support. This includes the identification of a third-party vendor (
A Better Way Athletics) that specializes in athletics management for school divisions – supporting administrators, coaches, parents, and student-athletes. A Better Way Athletics will soon provide training to members of the baseball program. Following the successful completion of this training, we anticipate that off-season HHS baseball activities will resume on a to-be-determined date after Winter Break. We will provide further details to members of the HHS baseball program on next steps after Winter Break.
We believe that the completion of this training will positively impact our student-athletes in both the short- and long-term and represents the start of our efforts to help ensure that the program is one where all students feel safe, respected, and supported. As we have shared with you previously, the safety and well-being of our students is of the utmost importance and is our top priority in every decision we make.
Thank you.
