Principal's Message

August 4, 2025

Dear Hawk Families,

Principal Kris Reece with HawkWelcome to the 2025–2026 school year at Hanover High School. We hope this message finds you well and eagerly anticipating the exciting academic year ahead.

A big welcome to the Hanover High School Class of 2029! We're so excited to have you join us and can't wait to see what you'll achieve in the coming four years. Remember to mark your calendars for orientation and open house on Tuesday, August 12, 2025.

As we welcome our new students, we also bid a fond farewell to the class of 2025. Your legacy at Hanover High will always be remembered, and we hope you'll join us for Homecoming on October 10, 2025, as we face the Mechanicsville Mustangs.

We are delighted to welcome new staff members to the Hawk family. This year we welcome three new members to the administrative team at HHS. Dr. Brandon Farrar has returned home to Hanover County as assistant principal at HHS. S. Neil Mathews joined us in the spring as our new activities director and hit the ground running. He has an extensive resume as both teacher and coach in Hanover and has already begun leaving his mark on our school. Lastly, Rob Rice has joined the administrative team as senior teacher. Rob has been a fixture at HHS for the past five years and we are excited about this new chapter. All three are proud products of Hanover County Public Schools, and we are honored that they will continue to serve our school and community in their new roles.

In preparation for the upcoming year, our teachers, administrators and support staff have been busy this summer attending professional development and new learning opportunities. Their expertise and enthusiasm will undoubtedly contribute to our collective mission of providing the best possible education for our students.  We are ready and excited to get this school year started!

While the past year was filled with numerous accomplishments, what truly stands out is our students' incredible academic success and profound dedication. Their unwavering resilience and passion for learning cultivated a path to remarkable growth and impressive outcomes. For example, our students excelled beyond state and national averages in both IB and AP testing. We eagerly anticipate building upon this legacy of hard work and determination.

Your involvement and support play a crucial role in creating a nurturing and safe environment for our students and their families. We encourage you to sign up to volunteer, join the PTSA, and booster organizations. Together, we can make this year at Hanover High School a rewarding and memorable one. We are eager to embark on this journey with you, and we look forward to celebrating the accomplishments of our students and the strength of our community!

It’s a great day to be a Hawk!
