The Hanover High School Orchestra is a group of student musicians ranging from 9th through 12th grade. Our conductor is the talented Ms. Lucretia Davis.

About Our Director - Ms. Lucretia L. Davis

Ms. Lucretia Davis holds a bachelor’s degree in music education, magna cum laude, from Virginia State University and a master’s of science degree, summa cum laude, in arts administration from Drexel University. Since 2006, Ms. Davis has been employed with Hanover County Public Schools as orchestra director at Oak Knoll Middle School and Hanover High School. Ms. Davis’ ensembles are said to be very expressive and energetic. They consistently receive superior and excellent ratings at competition and state orchestra assessments.

She is an experienced guest conductor, adjudicator, and clinician throughout the state of Virginia and was recently awarded the 2021 R.E.B. award for teaching excellence by the Community Foundation for Greater Richmond. Additionally, she frequently performs for area churches, weddings, universities, and events and is the concertmaster for the Petersburg Symphony Orchestra in Petersburg, VA. Lucretia Davis is dedicated to the advocacy of school orchestra programs being offered in every school system. She credits her love of music education to her past orchestra director’s guidance and love for the arts. In her spare time, she enjoys reading and organizing things. She currently resides in Henrico County, Virginia.

Orchestra Boosters

The Orchestra Boosters Club was established in 2003 (HHS’s opening year) to help create a strong high school orchestra program that would enhance our children’s musical education. Our goal is to help raise funds to supplement the program’s budget while fostering healthy student and parent involvement.

Over the past years, the club has sponsored car washes, held various raffles, and sold concert CDs. We welcome your participation and encourage you to attend our monthly meetings. With the smaller student enrollment in orchestra (compared to the band and chorus), it is imperative that we can count on all of our orchestra parents and students for their support during the school year.

Although we try to keep our fundraising to a minimum, we hope you will participate whenever possible. Some of the items funded by the club include:

  • competition entry fees

  • snacks for rehearsal and bus trips

  • senior and teacher gifts

  • Hanover High School Orchestra Logo

    miscellaneous classroom supplies

  • annual trip travel expenses
